Sapper Sreejith M.J was born on May 19, 1989 at Paruthipully village in Palakkad district, Kerala. He completed his Schooling from Kottayi high school and later passed out from the Industrial Training Centre in Lakkidi as a diesel mechanic. In 2008 , Sreejith joined the Indian Army and was inducted in Army’s Engineers Corps in September 2009.
Sapper Sreejith lost his father when he was quite young. He took the responsibility of his family at a very early stage of his life. He built a new house for his mother Usha Kumari and grandmother Karthiyayani Amma. Sreejith’s sister Sreeja is married and stays at Panamanna near Ottapalam.
Shopian Attack : Feb 2017
Sapper Sreejith was posted to an unit which is specially designated for the counterinsurgency operation in Kashmir. His unit had received a specific information that some of the militants were hiding in a house in the Kungoo village of Shopia district of south Kashmir. On 22nd Feb 2017, a team was formed to nab the militants ; Sapper Sreejith was also part of the team which went in the search operation to the suspected hideout. However, the militants were not present there and at around 2 AM in the morning , when they were coming from the operation and had reached Mulu Chitragam, militants of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen attacked on the patrolling unit of Army and police. The suspected militants launched the attack by firing indiscriminately at the forces’ vehicles, leaving seven soldiers injured, including two officers. Three of the them later succumbed to injuries. Sapper Sreejith was among the three soldiers killed by militants in this ambush. Sapper Sreejith laid down his life in the service of the nation and made the supreme sacrifice for the safety and security of fellow countrymen. Sapper Sreejit MJ is survived by his mother Usha Kumari.
