A visit to Sainik Takli, a quaint village 50 kms from Kolhapur in Shirol Taluka, Maharashtra by the volunteers of Atharva Foundation to understand the village’s long military history with the breadwinner of the family serving in the armed forces.

Col. Sudhir Raje along with Deepak Rane and Rakesh Dmello visited the home of Hav. Durga Kanta Doley. Smt. Jaya Doley, wife of Late Hav. Durga Kanta Doley spoke of his heroics during an ambush by the insurgents along the Indo-Myanmar border. He was awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his brave efforts and supreme sacrifice.
It was a heart-warming experience to visit the home of Late Capt. Jintu Gogoi. Col. Sudhir Raje, Deepak Rane and Rakesh Dmello were accompanied by his father Hony FGO Thogi Ram Gogoi and the martyr’s family to his memorial. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as they spoke about the late soldier’s sacrifice for the country at a young age of 29 years. He has been awarded with many prestigious awards like Vir Chakra in 1999, Bir Chilarai Award in 2007 and Mahabir Lachit Borphukan Award in 2014.

The volunteers from Atharva Foundation visited the proud family members of Late Havildar Sanjay Singh at village Bari, Himachal Pradesh. He was an assault squad commander of his troop operating in Haphruda Forest of North Kashmir and had participated in many successful operations like the Nariman House Operation in Mumbai while on deputation with National Security Guard.
