Naik Rambeer Singh Tomar was born on 15 August 1970 in the family of Shri Rajendra Singh Tomar and Urmila Devi in a small village. He had one younger brother and sister. He and his brother both of them joined the Indian Army. His marriage with Ms Saket, who hailed from Lucknow, was solemnized during his training. He was in the 15th Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment and was deputed to the 26 Rashtriya Rifles.

During a search and cordon operation in J & K, Naik Rambeer volunteered to be the entry man for the search of the house from where the fire was coming. He lobbed a grenade and rushed into the house, displaying unparalleled courage and shot dead two terrorists on the spot. The third terrorist charged at Naik Rambeer and in a fierce hand to hand combat, he overpowered the terrorist and shot him dead. Sensing presence of more terrorists in the adjacent room and danger to his buddy, he stormed the room where he was shot below his left eye by fourth terrorist. Despite failing energy due to loss of blood, he lobbed a grenade killing the fourth terrorist. The gallant soldier Naik Rambeer Singh, single-handedly killed three dreaded Pakistani and one local terrorist before he succumbed to his fatal injury while being evacuated.
On being challenged by the troops, the terrorists opened fire at them from their hideout. Major Satish Dahiya was leading the operation, tactically moving his troops to close all escape routes for the militants. The militants in sheer desperation resorted to indiscriminate and heavy firing against the troops. During the exchange of fire, Major Dahiya and three soldiers sustained serious injuries. However, Major Dahiya continued firing and ensured that all four terrorists were neutralized before he was evacuated to the hospital. Major Dahiya later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital and was martyred. The gallantry award, “Shaurya Chakra” winner, Major Dahiya was the epitome of courage and fighting spirit who laid down his life in the service of the nation.
For sustained display of most conspicuous bravery, inspiring leadership he was awarded Ashok Chakra Posthumously On 26 January 2002. His father Shri Rajndra Singh Tomar Received the award on his behalf.
Naik Rambeer Singh Tomar is survived by his Parents,wife and two sons.
