As a Company Commander Col K J Singh led his troops with great zeal and tenacity in various operations in the north-eastern sector and eliminated a number of terrorists. The operation yielded not only elimination of terrorists but large cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered. Col K J Singh was a very brave and committed soldier and proved his mettle in various operations in his service career. For his deep commitment to the service and military leadership skills, he was awarded with gallantry awards of Sena Medal as well as Shourya Chakra.
Colonel Kanwar Jaideep Singh was commissioned into the 5th Battalion of Dogra Regiment in 1980. Later he had moved to 6th Dogra early Mar 2002, to take over its command and was deployed along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. On 18th August 2002, Col Singh’s reconnaissance patrol had a chance encounter with a group of armed infiltrators in Nowshera, Rajouri (J&K). Col Singh immediately swung into action and moved along with his troops to engage and eliminate the terrorists.
Col Singh’s team came under intense fire from terrorists and during that one of the soldier was injured. Col. Singh diverted the attention of the terrorists and had the wounded soldier evacuated. Col Singh brought heavy volume of fire and blocked the escape routes of the terrorists. Then he continued the encounter and in a superbly maneuvered daredevil action killed two terrorists. However during the heavy exchange of fire Col Singh also got shot in the neck and was severely injured. He later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred setting an example of a true military leader. For his act of unflinching courage and supreme sacrifice, Col K J Singh was awarded Shaurya Chakra second time in his service career.
